Yaseen

That evening when I was on my way home after fetching my nephew from nursery. I was on foot and that was when the rustling sound of the long grass moved against each other really captured my attention. I slowed down and decided to stop; wanting to relish every bit of the sound, allowing myself to be fully present in the moment. Not for long though, my impatient nephew would not allow me to do that.

A sense of serenity seeped through my heart and put my mind immediately at peace. I remember having a lot on my mind on the whole week, especially on that day.

Walking down the same road almost every day, I never really noticed the comforting sound and saying that myself, made me think on how we tend to underappreciate things around us when we are so consumed with our all-those-kinds of thoughts and problems.

How often we allow ourselves to slow down when things get so overwhelming? And how often we keep pushing through?

And what reminds me of that particular time is, when I was reading the commentary of this particular verse (34) from surah Yassin about how nature is not only the illustration of the beauty of Allah but also His compassion towards people. The weight of the word compassion really got me thinking, how could I not feel so loved after reading that, when I could vividly remember the exact peaceful feelings washed over me right in that evening? Just thinking about the whole things again, made my eyes brimming with hot tears.

To pause and to do a reflection, either a quick one or an extensive one is essential to reap a better gratitude.

In a lot of matters, we will understand if we allow ourselves to.
